Survey 2013

Industry-sponsored awards were given to eight technical institutes at Global University-Industry Congress—CII’s higher education summit—on 7th November at New Delhi. The congress saw participants from industry, academia and government. Some big names from the three sectors were present at the summit.

The chief guest for the 2013 summit was Mr Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Communications & IT, Law & Justice and Former Minister of Human Resource Development. In an award ceremony on the first day of the summit, he presented industry sponsored awards to winners of ‘AICTE Survey for Industry-Linked Technical Institutes’ in fields of engineering, pharmacy, management and architecture.

Top corporates including Tata Chemicals, Forbes Marshall, Elico, Sun Pharma and Pennar Industries joined hands to give awards to the winning institutes in recognition of their strong linkages with industry. The winner in the Best Industry-Linked Institute in Electronics & Communication category was PSG College of Technology. The award for Best Industry-Linked Institute in Mechanical Engineering went to College of Engineering Pune, for Electrical Engineering to Kongu Engineering College, for Civil Engineering to Walchand Institute of Technology, for Computer & IT Engineering to Sona College of Technology and for Chemical Engineering to Institute of Chemical Technology. XLRI Jamshedpur was declared the Best Industry-Linked Institute in Management. Bombay College of Pharmacy was adjudged winner in the Pharmacy strea

The awards were instituted in 2012 with only engineering institutes in scope of survey. In 2013, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) expanded the scope of their study and launched the second edition of the survey in May. This year, the scope was substantially expanded to include all streams of engineering (nine specified and the rest covered under an “All Others” category) and also the disciplines of management, pharmacy and architecture. Uni-stream engineering institutes, such as ones offering only computer and IT, chemical or petro-engineering, were also eligible to participate if they fulfilled the other conditions of the basic criteria. Participation was also encouraged from emerging institutes in the engineering and management disciplines.

The objective of the survey is to showcase best practices of industry partnerships across AICTE approved technical institutes in the covered streams. A total of 1,050 AICTE approved institutes from established engineering, management, pharmacy and architecture institutes, and from emerging engineering and management institutes, participated in the voluntary survey. The first level of basic scores calculated through algorithms set after extensive consultation and brainstorming with industry and academic experts.
