AICTE announces the survey on industry–academia collaboration in technical institutes which it has been conducting with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) since 2012. This survey has been successfully mapping the industry linkages of Indian technical institutes across four streams—Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Architecture. It showcases the best practices of partnerships with industry and highlights the strengths and weaknesses of ecosystem of technical education in India.
All degree (UG/PG) and diploma institutes in Engineering, Management, Pharmacy and Architecture.
Institutes will be evaluated in the following two categories:-
Standard category: Institute should have been offering a particular course for at least 10 years, as on 1 August Survey year.
Emerging category: Institute should have been offering a particular course for at least 5 years, as on 1 August Survey year.
1) ENGINEERING AWARDS – 15 Awards
2) MANAGEMENT AWARDS – 3 Awards
3) PHARMACY AWARDS – 4 Awards
4) ARCHITECTURE / PLANNING AWARDS – 2 Awards
In 2012, CII embarked on a journey of mapping excellence in academia from industry perspective. It conducted a survey of engineering institutes in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in six streams—Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer and IT Engineering and Chemical Engineering. The institutes were mapped on their industry linkages and best practices promoted for others to follow. Six companies sponsored stream-wise awards in 2012-13—Tata Chemicals, Infosys, Forbes Marshall, Elico, Hi-Tech Group and A report on the survey was released by Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr Shashi Tharoor, during the two-day 4th Global Higher Education Summit on 8 November 2012. In 2013, the scope of the survey has been enlarged to include Management, Architecture and Pharmacy also.
Top institutes and faculty for best industry-linkages based on the survey will be recognized and felicitated on 7-8th November in New Delhi in the following categories:
Excellence in higher education is the key to success of any society and plays an important role in a nation’s development. Globally, excellence in higher education, especially technical education, has thrived on robust industry linkages and collaborations. Producing quality human resource and contributing to social and economic development through research are the two vital indicators of excellence of technical institutions. In India, while we have a few success stories of such industry linkages, we still have a long way to go to match the global benchmarks.
In order to stimulate industry-academia collaboration, CII started the exercise of mapping the industry linkages of technical institutes in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education (ACITE) in 2012. This yearly initiative maps and awards the best technical institutions on their industry linkages leading to a benchmark in India. In 2012, the scope of the survey was limited to AICTE-affiliated engineering colleges and engineering departments of universities in Chemical, Civil, Computer & IT, Electrical, Electronics & Communication and Mechanical Engineering.
The success of the 2012 survey has laid the path for capturing of such linkages on a wider basis and including more streams in its ambit. In 2013, the survey will include Engineering, Management, Architecture and Pharmacy institutes. In addition to AICTE-affiliated institutes, all National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will also be eligible to participate in it. Their industry linkages will be captured through a detailed online questionnaire and the feedback analyzed to arrive at best institutes in every stream. There is a special category of Emerging Institutes in both Engineering and Management.
The survey is conducted through the portal of AICTE and institutes are required to log in to their respective AICTE accounts to fill it. Those institutes (such as NITs) which do not have an AICTE login ID can do so by writing to either AICTE (at email@example.com)or CII(firstname.lastname@example.org).They will be assisted with the required formalities for acquiring a login ID.
